Vancouver Fiddle Orchestra
20th Anniversary CD

The Orchestra has a vast Music library (.pdf) of over 460 tunes and when any of these tunes are combined makes each dance unique. In addition, tunes are also combined into concert sets, highlighting various tempos and emotions.

Dance library (.pdf) over 325 dances of Strathspeys, Jigs, Reels, Hornpipes & Ceilidh dances. Some dances may use 1 tune, while others may use 8 different tunes. Often tunes may be repeated during a dance.

Janet Wright (Music Director) works closely with any event organizer to design any program with the appropriate music. To give you an added experience, we are able to bring together other talented musicians, dancers, singers and story tellers, making an event entertaining for all.

A Review of the NEW CD:

"I am writing from the Okanagan to express my congratulations to the entire orchestra on the CD that was recently released. As a former member of the group, I am so delighted and proud to see how you have matured musically under Janet's direction in recent years. The CD is a fantastic collection of your best tunes and sets - past and present.

I listened non-stop 3 times through the whole recording and then had to go back to favourites that brought back so many happy memories of the orchestra:

- Coilsfield House - thinking of Tom Scott and his passion for this genre
- Retreat Marches - thinking of Ian Price and his description of 3 legged marches
- Bratach Bana - thinking of Davine Browne and the smile on her face as we played her favourite set
- Atholl Highlanders which stirs the blood almost as effectively as the pipes - go Ed go!!!!
- Castle Douglas - an arrangement that makes me weep! I lost my way in the dance at Gleneagles!

Thanks so much to all of you for the many hours of hard work arranging, rehearsing (and tuning) that went into the production of this historical musical snapshot of a venerable organization.

Listen to the Vancouver Fiddle Orchestra

The power of a live performance can be actually 'felt' like a wave rolling over the dance floor sweeping all before it and carrying the dancers along on its crest. Supporting this wave is a carefully balanced rhythm section just sufficiently reinforced to complement that incredibly exciting fiddle sound.

Reels, jigs and strathspeys flow across the dance floor as dancers in full Scottish dress and ball gowns create the intricate patterns of formal Scottish Country dance much as it was danced in the Academies of Edinburgh or Stirling a hundred years ago.
